choosing things

Moomin had a great playdate with Hamster…. SuperT and I lolled in the sun, stupefied. It’s supposed to rain all week. We went to the Hole, ate all the free samples. She gave me a quick shoulder massage and taught me an exercise to stretch my pectoral muscles. It really helps my arm/neck problem (which is getting worse since the spraypaint incident.)

Six moms from the email list asked for the transcript of yesterday’s panel – that was kind of cool.

Me: Hey Moomin. What do you want for dinner, chicken nuggets or grilled cheese?

Moomin: Well let’s see. This pear will be the grilled cheese. And this pen will be the chicken nuggets.

*seats himself at the table in a businesslike way*

Me: ????

Moomin: Eeeny meeny miny mo, catch a tiger by the toe, if he hollers let him go, eeny meeny miny mo, engine engine number nine, going down chicago line, if the train falls off the track, do you want your money back, my mother told me to pick the very best ONE. I’m having grilled cheese. Mommy, why are you looking at me kind of funny?

It’s his first count-out rhyme that I’ve ever heard. His friends all seem to have known those things from birth… but he is just now catching on! I got a little teary-eyed and also had bizarre flashbacks to first grade, the blacktop, lemon-twisters, chinese jumpropes, regular big jumpropes, hanging back far far back to watch the horrors of four-square and tetherball, and the weirdness of everyone else doing their first communion and me not because I wasn’t Catholic and me being super glad, because I didn’t want to do it.
